Basque culture celebrated through festivals and historical tributes

Events celebrating Basque heritage and history are taking place in both Argentina and Spain. In Chacabuco, Argentina, the III Basque Diaspora Festival was inaugurated, organized by the Guillermo Larregui Basque Center alongside several regional Basque centers. The festival featured traditional gastronomy, including the preparation of one of Argentina’s largest portions of vizcaína tripe, as well as music, dance, and traditional games.

In Spain, commemorations are underway for the 130th anniversary of the birth of Jesús María de Leizaola. During a ceremony in Donostia, the current Lehendakari, Imanol Pradales, honored Leizaola and his predecessor, José Antonio Agirre, describing them as the custodians of Basque self-government and democratic legitimacy during their time in exile. These tributes coincide with the lead-up to Basque Diaspora Day.
