Basque diaspora activities highlight cultural and economic engagement

The Basque diaspora is engaging in various cultural and economic activities globally. In Argentina, Villa María is preparing for the 2026 Basque National Week from October 5 to 11, featuring cultural programming and the participation of Vice-President Ibone Bengoetxea. Additionally, the community in Tandil will hold an event to honor the Fuente de los Vascos.

In the economic sector, Mendoza’s Ministry of Production has launched the Mondragon City Challenge, an international cooperative entrepreneurship competition aimed at fostering innovation in technology, health, and sustainability among local youth.

Cultural highlights include the San Sebastián International Film Festival, where Mike Leigh’s ‘Tender Loving Care’ won the Golden Shell. Meanwhile, the 35th Latin American Film and Culture Festival has opened in Biarritz, showcasing 90 regional films.
