Basque Government acquires 1% stake in Enagás
The Basque Government, acting through the Instituto Vasco de Finanzas (IVF), has purchased a 1 % share of the Spanish gas infrastructure group Enagás. The transaction, carried out via the newly created public investment fund Indartuz (also referred to as Inboltuz), is valued at roughly €45 million and represents the fund’s first direct equity investment.
The acquisition is presented as a strategic move to strengthen energy autonomy and supply security in the Basque Country. It also positions the region to play a key role in the development of the European green‑hydrogen corridor (H2Med) and the joint Hub COnet2 project, both aimed at decarbonising hard‑to‑abate industrial sectors such as steel, chemicals and cement. The purchase aligns with the Basque Government’s 2030 economic transformation plan, which targets public investment of €1 billion to mobilise an additional €3 billion from the private sector for green‑energy projects.
