Basque Government alerts Listeria contamination in Goya and other fresh cheese brands

The Basque Government’s Department of Health has warned that fresh cow cheese sold as “Queso Latino” from the brands Goya, Nativo and Sabor de Casa contains Listeria monocytogenes above legal limits. Affected products are plastic‑packaged 300‑gram portions and bars with expiry dates between mid‑May and early July 2026. The producer has begun withdrawing these batches from retail channels. The alert, issued through the rapid‑exchange information system (SCIRI), covers distribution in several Spanish autonomous communities, including Euskadi. Consumers are advised not to eat the recalled cheese, to watch for symptoms of listeriosis (vomiting, diarrhoea, fever), and to seek medical care if needed, especially pregnant women. Separately, Spain’s food safety agency AESAN has also recommended avoiding two Goya batches after detecting the pathogen.
