Basque Government approves multiple housing projects across the region
The Basque Government is implementing several housing initiatives across the region to address local needs, particularly in smaller municipalities and specific urban areas.
In the Busturialdea region, 53 protected housing units will be promoted, including 24 in Mundaka, 15 in Errigoitin, and 14 in Ean. This is part of a broader plan by the Department of Housing and Urban Agenda to develop 814 homes across 23 municipalities with populations under 7,000. The initiative aims to support territorial balance and social cohesion by addressing issues such as aging populations and lack of supply in smaller towns.
Additionally, the Government Council has approved a collaboration with the Zarautz City Council to build 230 new homes and transitional apartments in the Irita area. This project involves a 34.6 million euro investment, consisting of 130 protected rental homes and 100 transitional apartments. The development is scheduled for completion by 2030. In Azkoitia, an agreement has also been approved to move forward with 111 social housing units.
