Basque Government cancels claim for erroneous 400-euro aid payment

The Basque Government has agreed to cancel a demand for the reimbursement of a 400-euro family aid payment that was issued in error. This decision follows a recommendation from the Ararteko, the regional ombudsman.

The error occurred when the administration deposited the funds into an incorrect bank account, despite the beneficiary having provided the correct details. Although the administration later corrected the payment to the proper account, it attempted to reclaim the original erroneous amount nearly four years later.

The beneficiary demonstrated that she never had access to the funds, as they were withdrawn by her former partner. She also provided documentation indicating she had been a victim of economic violence. The Ararteko concluded that the recipient acted in good faith and had met all legal obligations, determining the error was exclusively administrative.
