Basque Government grants semi-liberty to former ETA leader
The Basque Government's Department of Justice has once again granted semi-liberty status to former ETA leader Soledad Iparragirre, known as ‘Anboto’. Currently held in Martutene Prison, Iparragirre has been authorized under article 100.2 of the Penitentiary Regulations to participate in regulated volunteer activities.
Under this regime, she is permitted to leave the prison from Monday to Friday to carry out her volunteer work, but must return to the facility to sleep each night and remain there throughout the weekend. This measure is expected to take effect within the coming days.
This decision follows a previous attempt earlier this year. In March, the Basque Government had granted a similar regime, which allowed her to leave the prison during the week; however, the application of that status was subsequently rejected by the National Court (Audiencia Nacional) in April.
