Basque Government launches 2 billion euro fund for 10,000 affordable homes
The Basque Government has launched the Social Housing Fund (FSV), a public-private initiative aimed at constructing 10,000 affordable rental homes over the next eight years. The fund intends to mobilize 2,000 million euros by combining public contributions—approximately 30%—with capital from the European Investment Bank, the Official Credit Institute (ICO), and private investors.
The first phase involves an investment of roughly 452 million euros to develop 2,065 homes across several municipalities, including Vitoria-Gasteiz, Bilbao, and Sestao. These units will be offered at protected rental rates between 634 and 680 euros per month, targeting households with annual incomes between 25,000 and 65,000 euros.
In other Spanish regions, separate housing initiatives are underway. In Murcia, President Fernando López Miras announced 16 million euros in rental aid for 2,300 young people, offering up to 300 euros monthly for housing or 200 euros for a room. Meanwhile, in Zamora, the Provincial Council has allocated 112,000 euros in subsidies to 68 young people to facilitate housing access and population retention in rural areas.
