Basque Government proposes plan to reduce family stress
The Basque Government’s Department of Welfare, Youth, and Demographic Challenge has released a qualitative report titled ‘Family Stress in Euskadi.’ The study examines the daily pressures affecting households in Álava, Bizkaia, and Gipuzkoa, incorporating perspectives from families, experts, children, and adolescents.
The report identifies stress as a phenomenon influenced by personal, community, institutional, and structural factors. Key internal drivers include mental overload, accumulated fatigue, unequal distribution of caregiving duties, and the pressure to achieve perfection. External stressors include rigid work schedules, difficulties reconciling school and work hours, housing access, and the impact of the digital environment.
To address these issues, the regional executive plans to launch several initiatives, including a practical guide for emotional management and organization, the reinforcement of positive parenting programs, and the promotion of community support networks. The strategy also aims to improve institutional coordination between educational, health, and social services to mitigate the impact of these pressures on household well-being.
