Basque identity protests and social issues reported in Spain

Protests and political demonstrations have taken place in the Basque Country regarding national identity and social issues.

In Vitoria-Gasteiz, the organization Aske led a demonstration against what they termed the celebration of Spanish imperialism. Participants marched through the city center to protest against assimilation and the perceived suppression of Basque national identity by Spanish and French authorities.

The organization Euskal Herrian Euskaraz (EHE) also issued a statement expressing solidarity with peoples facing what they described as Spanish colonialist, ethnic, and linguistic oppression. They called for the prioritization of the Basque language to resist cultural homogenization.

In a separate social matter, the Saretxe housing union reported that a family in the Egia neighborhood of San Sebastian is facing eviction on October 19. The union highlighted the family's vulnerable situation, noting low income and the presence of children and elderly members, while criticizing difficulties in finding alternative housing.
