Basque Parliament rejects review of regional education model
The Basque Parliament has rejected a proposal to conduct an in-depth review of the Basque Country's educational system. The motion, introduced by the Sumar group, sought an independent analysis of the current and future state of education to develop a comprehensive strengthening strategy following poor results in the latest PISA report.
Instead, the Parliament approved an amendment supported by the PNV and PSE-EE parties, which hold the majority. This amendment reaffirms commitment to the existing framework established by the Education Law, emphasizing current efforts to improve student outcomes through community involvement. Sumar representatives criticized the decision, accusing the government of avoiding structural problems and replacing self-criticism with propaganda regarding educational excellence.
