Basque police investigate terrorism suspects in Gipuzkoa

The Ertzaintza is investigating two individuals, a 34-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, for suspected terrorism-related offenses. The investigation follows a roadside checkpoint in Eskoriatza, Gipuzkoa, on September 26, where authorities intercepted a vehicle containing sensitive information regarding security forces and the suspected location of weapons and explosives.

Authorities have noted that the suspects appear to be Basque nationalists with relevant criminal records. A third individual of Irish nationality was also involved in the incident. The case is currently being handled by the Audiencia Nacional. This development is considered highly significant as it may represent the first identification of a domestic group pursuing such aims since the end of ETA's activities.
