Bassam Tariq shares details on scrapped Marvel ‘Blade’ project

Director Bassam Tariq has shared new details regarding his involvement with the scrapped Marvel ‘Blade’ reboot. Tariq, who was set to direct the Mahershala Ali-led project in 2021, revealed he spent approximately 18 months on pre-production, which included relocating his family to Atlanta. He confirmed his version of the film was partially set in the 1920s, noting that costume designer Ruth Carter later utilized some of the unused costumes for the film ‘Sinners’.

Following Tariq’s departure in 2022, Yann Demange was hired to direct the project before also exiting. Demange is currently filming his new project, ‘Lineage’, set in modern London. The film stars Isabelle Huppert as a crime boss and follows a man attempting to rebuild his life after prison while being pulled back into the criminal underworld by his family.
