Bassano Romano police halt unauthorized fiber optic excavation

Local police in Bassano Romano have suspended a fiber optic infrastructure project on Via Leonardo da Vinci after discovering unauthorized excavation methods. The contracting company was using a ‘micro-trenching’ technique involving a milling cutter, which directly damaged the sidewalk's interlocking paving stones.

The technical documentation approved by the municipality had explicitly required a ‘traditional trench’ method to protect the high-quality paving. As a result of the violation of Article 21 of the Highway Code, the company faces administrative fines of up to 3,464 euros. Additionally, the firm is required to fully restore the site at its own expense, ensuring the damaged paving stones are replaced according to original technical specifications under the supervision of the Municipal Technical Office.
