Bastian Borke announces retirement from speedway

Danish speedway rider Bastian Borke has officially announced his retirement from the sport at age 24. The decision follows a grueling recovery process after a severe accident in Poole, England, in May 2024. The crash resulted in torn cruciate ligaments, nerve damage, and muscle injuries in his knee.

Despite undergoing an eight-hour surgery involving a nerve transplant and defying medical expectations by returning to the track within months, Borke cited physical limitations and regulatory barriers as the primary reasons for his departure. He noted that the injury impacted his ability to compete at the level of competitiveness he expected and that sporting regulations made it difficult to regain his professional status.

Borke, who most recently rode for Śląsk Świętochłowice, expressed pride in his ability to return to the track after such a significant injury, even if his competitive career has reached its end.
