Reservists Association seeks to withdraw secret OPLAN from Saxony-Anhalt

Bastian Ernst, president of the German Bundeswehr Reservists Association, is calling for the withdrawal of the strictly confidential 'Operationsplan Deutschland' from the Saxony-Anhalt state chancery. This demand follows the AfD's electoral success in the region. Ernst warns that if the AfD forms a government in Magdeburg, there is a high risk that the 1,000-page document, which contains critical defense and NATO movement plans for potential conflict with Russia, could be leaked to Moscow.

As an alternative, Ernst suggests centralizing the document within the Federal Ministry of Defense, where access would require explicit prior authorization. He noted that in a state of war, federal authority over state-level information would naturally increase.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has reportedly expressed support for the possibility of reclaiming the plan from the state level, according to reports from the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland (RND). The OPLAN is currently held by all 16 German state governments and outlines essential measures for national and alliance defense during crises or war.
