Batam City Government investigates residents seeking help from Cambodia
The Batam City Government is investigating reports of Batam residents who claim to be held in a shelter in Cambodia. A video circulated online showing the individuals requesting assistance to return home, specifically calling upon Batam Mayor Amsakar Achmad and Vice Mayor Li Claudia Chandra.
In response, the Batam City Government has coordinated with the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and BP2MI Kepri to trace the information and verify the status of the individuals. Local officials stated that complete population and immigration data are required to track their exact location and confirm their identities.
Authorities are urging families who recognize the individuals in the video to provide necessary information to the Batam Mayor's Office or the Department of Communication and Information (Diskominfo) to facilitate the verification and rescue process.
