Batang and Tanah Datar governments advance new regional regulations

Local governments in Indonesia are adjusting regional regulations to balance rapid industrial growth with environmental and social protections.

In Batang Regency, the local government has submitted three strategic draft regional regulations (Raperda) to the DPRD. These include a 30-year natural protection plan (RPPLH 2027–2057) focused on water resource conservation and low-carbon development, an updated regional asset management regulation to align with national standards, and a 20-year spatial planning guideline (RTRW) to navigate future investment.

In Tanah Datar, officials have expressed openness to new investment opportunities to create economic multiplier effects and jobs. However, Vice Regent Ahmad Fadly emphasized that all investments must adhere to local customary norms, religious values, and environmental standards to ensure legal certainty and community benefit.
