Batang-Semarang Toll Road accident kills three in ambulance pileup

A multi-vehicle accident involving four vehicles occurred on the Batang-Semarang Toll Road at KM 379+900 in Gringsing, Batang, on Wednesday morning, August 19, 2026. The incident resulted in the deaths of three people, all of whom were passengers in a Suzuki APV ambulance.

The victims have been identified as Tekat Susanto (46), an ambulance crew member, and a married couple from Cengkareng Timur, Giyati (42) and Mulyana (50). The ambulance was reportedly transporting the body of Tyo Prasetyo from Jakarta to Jepara for burial.

According to Batang Police, the accident began when the ambulance driver, allegedly lacking concentration, struck the rear side of a Hino truck traveling in the same direction. The impact caused the ambulance to veer right and hit a Toyota Innova. Additionally, the collision caused the truck's spare tire to detach and strike a Toyota Avanza following behind. The ambulance driver sustained injuries in the crash.
