Bathroom cleaner performance tested by ÖKO-TEST
A recent evaluation by ÖKO-TEST of 25 bathroom cleaners yielded underwhelming results, with no product receiving the highest rating of ‘very good’. While twelve products were rated ‘good’ and ten ‘satisfactory’, several failed to meet expectations. Notably, the Sodasan Shower & Bath cleaner received an ‘insufficient’ rating, performing only slightly better than water when attempting to remove limescale and soap scum.
Effective cleaning depends heavily on the bathtub material. Acrylic tubs, which feel warm and produce a dull sound when tapped, require gentle care. Steel enamel tubs, which feel cool and respond to magnets, are more durable but can be sensitive to acids. For limescale removal, diluted vinegar or citric acid can be used for up to 15 minutes, but must be rinsed thoroughly to avoid damaging silicone or fixtures.
While cleaning performance varied significantly, the testing of ingredients showed fewer issues. The products were checked for allergens, formaldehyde, and isothiazolinones, with no major negative findings regarding chemical composition across the tested range.
