Bathroom design trends shift toward glass panels and improved maintenance

Modern interior design trends are shifting away from traditional plastic shower curtains in favor of fixed or semi-open glass panels. According to experts from the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA), modern bathrooms are increasingly designed to feel like wellness spaces or spas. Glass panels support this aesthetic by allowing light to pass through and not visually breaking up the room, which helps small bathrooms appear more spacious.

Beyond aesthetics, glass panels offer hygiene advantages. Designers from Kaps Living note that shower curtains can become discolored, accumulate limescale, or develop mold. In contrast, glass surfaces—especially those with water-repellent coatings—are easier to clean and maintain.

For existing bathroom maintenance, discoloration in silicone sealant caused by soap residue, limescale, or mold can often be addressed with simple household ingredients. While deep mold penetration may require more intensive treatment, surface staining can be managed without expensive specialized cleaners.
