Bathroom hygiene tips to stop odors and bacterial growth

Hidden sources such as partially blocked drains, damp towels, toothbrush holders and bathroom mats can harbour mold and bacteria, causing persistent unpleasant smells even after routine cleaning. Experts advise clearing drain clogs with a bicarbonate‑vinegar mixture, using hot water washes for towels, regularly cleaning and replacing toothbrush‑holder components, and washing bath mats weekly at high temperatures while ensuring good ventilation.

For toilets, a less‑worn brush that reaches under the rim should be used and replaced about every six months. The brush and its holder need to be disinfected after each use, and gloves are recommended when applying bleach‑based cleaners. All exterior parts of the toilet, including the tank, seat and flush button, should be cleaned regularly. Bleach must never be mixed with acidic agents such as vinegar, and disposable cleaning tablets for the tank should be avoided because they can damage components.
