Brodie Kostecki wins 2026 Bathurst 1000 after last-lap fuel failure
Brodie Kostecki and Todd Hazelwood secured a dramatic victory at the 2026 Bathurst 1000, driving for Dick Johnson Racing. The win came after race leader Anton De Pasquale ran out of fuel on the final lap of the 161-lap event, with Team 18 principal Adrian Burgess citing a fuel calculation error. Kostecki and Hazelwood set a new race record with a time of 5h 54m 04s, breaking their own previous mark by nearly four minutes.
Will Brown and Scott Pye finished second for Triple Eight Racing, while Zach Bates and Aaron Seton took third for Matt Stone Racing. The event also featured a tribute to the late nine-time winner Peter Brock, marking 20 years since his passing with a parade of iconic cars and a crowd ovation on lap five.
In a notable debut, rookie Bayley Hall secured a top-ten finish for Team 18. Racing legend Craig Lowndes praised Hall’s mental resilience, noting the difficulty of managing the intense psychological pressures and the physical demands of competing in both Super2 and the main Supercars event.
