Batik Air flight experiences power bank fire en route to Jakarta
On 29 July 2026, Batik Air flight ID‑6143 traveling from Makassar to Jakarta suffered a fire when a passenger’s power bank emitted smoke and sparked inside the cabin. The incident occurred while the aircraft was airborne.
Corporate Communications Strategic Danang Mandala Prihantoro said cabin crew, trained for emergency situations, followed standard operating procedures and used onboard safety equipment to contain the fire. The crew ensured the safety of nearby passengers and coordinated with the captain throughout the response.
After the situation was declared under control, the flight continued and landed safely at Soekarno‑Hatta International Airport. All passengers and crew were unharmed. Batik Air reminded travelers that power banks must remain in the cabin under the passenger’s supervision and must not be used for charging devices during flight, reiterating existing safety regulations while the airline investigates the exact cause of the incident.
