Batik Air Malaysia launches direct Batam-Penang flight route

Batik Air Malaysia has launched a new direct flight route between Batam, Indonesia, and Penang, Malaysia. Operating three times per week, the service commenced on October 18, 2026, with inaugural flights arriving at Penang International Airport and departing from Hang Nadim International Airport.

This new connectivity makes Batam the fifth Indonesian city to have direct air links to Penang. Officials from BP Batam and the Penang State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee noted that the route is expected to bolster regional tourism and facilitate easier mobility for business travelers.

For Batam, the route supports economic integration and investment, particularly as Malaysia remains one of the top five investors in the region. For Penang, the connection strengthens ties with Indonesia, which serves as a primary source market for international arrivals.
