Batik Air pilots fall asleep during flight from Kendari to Jakarta

During a Batik Air flight from Kendari to Jakarta, both the captain and the co-pilot fell asleep simultaneously for approximately 28 minutes. The incident occurred on an Airbus A320 carrying 153 passengers and 6 crew members.

According to the Indonesian National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT), the captain had handed control to the co-pilot to rest, but the co-pilot subsequently fell asleep as well. While the aircraft's automatic pilot maintained altitude and speed, it continued on the last set heading rather than following the intended flight path, causing the plane to deviate from its route.

Air traffic controllers in Jakarta attempted to contact the crew multiple times, but their calls went unanswered. The situation was resolved when the pilots woke up and re-established communication with air traffic control to correct the flight path. The flight completed its journey to Jakarta without injury or damage to the aircraft.
