Batman converts corn stubble into biofuel, collecting 150,000 tons in three years

In Batman, Turkey, agricultural waste from corn harvests is being repurposed into biofuel rather than being burned. Over the last three years, approximately 150,000 tons of corn stubble have been collected, providing additional income for local farmers and contributing to the energy sector.

Necdet Tuncer, the Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, stated that an action plan implemented under the leadership of Governor Ekrem Canalp has increased awareness among producers. This initiative has prevented environmental pollution caused by traditional stubble burning. The province generates nearly 50,000 tons of biomass annually from these residues.

Energy companies have reached agreements with farmers to collect the organic matter, which is then sent to facilities to be converted into energy. This recycling process serves as a way to address the country's energy needs while protecting soil quality.
