Batman Governor announces employment growth and urban projects

During the opening of the 3rd Textile Fair in Batman, Governor Ekrem Canalp reported significant improvements in local employment. He stated that 13,600 people were officially employed in the first nine months of 2026, with expectations to reach 18,000 by year-end. The unemployment rate in the region has reportedly dropped to 9.6% from 17.2% in 2022.

Canalp highlighted the progress of the Tekstilkent project in Samanyolu village, which is nearing completion. Once operational, the facility is expected to double current textile employment levels by hosting various textile and footwear factories.

Additionally, a new urban development plan was announced involving the demolition of the current Governor's building. The site is slated to be transformed into a city square and an underground parking lot to host large-scale social events and fairs.
