Batman gym fire kills three people

A fire broke out in the sauna section of a private gym in the Gültepe neighborhood of Batman, Turkey. The incident resulted in three fatalities and left several others injured.

Initially, two women, Emine Yağni and Şanzime Sarıgül, died following the fire. The death toll rose to three after Gülsüm Öztekin Tunç, a 27-year-old lawyer, succumbed to her injuries at the Batman Training and Research Hospital. One of the deceased, Emine Yağni, was identified as the niece of Turkey's Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek.

Emergency teams, including fire departments, AFAD, and UMKE, responded to the scene. A total of 12 people were rescued from the smoke; nine individuals were later discharged from the hospital, while one person remains in serious condition. Batman Governor Ekrem Canalp monitored the search and rescue operations on-site. An investigation by the Batman Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and inspectors from the Social Security Institution (SGK) is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
