Batman Returns Batmobile to be auctioned for up to $7 million

The original “hero car” Batmobile from the 1992 film Batman Returns is scheduled to go up for auction on November 23, 2026. Organized by Julien’s Auctions in partnership with Turner Classic Movies (TCM), the sale will take place in Los Angeles and online.

This specific vehicle was used for the majority of the driving scenes in the Tim Burton-directed film starring Michael Keaton. It has been “screen-matched” to the movie footage, distinguishing it from replicas or promotional vehicles. Built by Carl Casper on a modified Chevrolet Impala chassis, the car features a hand-sculpted body and a jet-turbine-shaped nose.

Estimates for the Batmobile range between $5 million and $7 million. If it reaches these figures, it could surpass the previous record for a cinematic vehicle: the 1966 television series Batmobile, which sold for approximately $4.6 million in 2013. The auction event is intended as a retrospective of the Batman film and television history, featuring various production items, costumes, and props.
