Batman Returns Batmobile to go to auction for up to $7 million

The Hero Batmobile from Tim Burton’s 1992 film ‘Batman Returns’ is scheduled to go to auction on November 23 in Los Angeles and online. Offered by Julien’s Auctions in partnership with Turner Classic Movies, the vehicle is estimated to sell for between $5 million and $7 million. If it reaches this range, it would set a new auction record for a movie car, surpassing the $4.2 million paid for the Batmobile from the 1960s television series.

This specific vehicle is identified as the primary Hero car used during filming and has been screen-matched to most of the movie’s driving sequences. The car features an Art Deco-inspired design with a large turbine-style intake and massive rear fins. Underneath its sculpted fiberglass body, the vehicle was built on a custom chassis created by integrating two Chevrolet Impala frames, powered by a Chevrolet V8 engine and a three-speed automatic transmission. The car measures 19 feet 8 inches in length.
