Batman sequel filming turns Liverpool sites into Gotham
Warner Bros. Liverpool has become the primary backlot for Matt Reeves' upcoming "The Batman: Part II," with the Merseyside region standing in for Gotham City. Production crews have been filming in the historic Birkenhead Tunnel and on the Silver Jubilee Bridge in Runcorn, covering vehicles and sections of road with artificial snow to depict a harsh winter following a flood that reshapes the fictional city.
The set photos released this week show multiple cars buried under thick white snow, a Gotham‑branded truck and traffic signage, confirming that official photography took place around the tunnel on July 21 and continued through the following days. The sequel, starring Robert Pattinson, Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson and returning cast members Zoe Kravitz, Colin Farrell and Paul Dano, is now slated for release in 2028 after a previous October 2027 date was pushed back.
