Battenberg plants 34 new fruit trees to boost biodiversity

In Battenberg, Germany, volunteers have planted a total of 34 new trees — 26 fruit trees and eight high‑stem cherry trees — as part of a community‑driven greening project. The effort, carried out entirely by local volunteers, aims to enrich the landscape, preserve historic cultural scenery and enhance biodiversity.

Funding for the planting came from donations collected at previous farmers’ markets, allowing the municipality to invest the proceeds back into a project that benefits residents and visitors alike. The newly planted trees are expected to provide shade along walking routes now and, in a few years, blossom and bear fruit, contributing to the town’s natural heritage.
