Battery storage installations boost grid stability in Halle and Wiener Neustadt

A 20‑MWh, 10 MW battery storage system built by INTILION and CCE was connected to the grid in Halle (Saale), Germany, and will operate commercially from January 2026. The facility provides primary regulation, secondary reserve and manual frequency restoration services, enhancing supply security for roughly 3,600 households.

In Wiener Neustadt, Austria, Greeninfra GmbH broke ground on a 2 MW, 4 MWh battery storage plant that will balance local solar generation peaks. The project, costing €1.5 million, is slated for commissioning in October 2024 and aims to store surplus PV output for evening use, supporting grid stability and renewable integration.

Both installations illustrate how large‑scale batteries are being deployed in Central Europe to increase grid flexibility and support the transition to renewable energy.
