Battipaglia Hospital Evacuated Over Structural Concerns, Patients Relocated

Structural defects discovered in the Santa Maria della Speranza hospital in Battipaglia prompted the ASL Salerno to suspend admissions, evacuate the building and begin extensive technical inspections. Engineer Pasquale Aniello Crocamo was appointed to assess cracks in the gynecology, obstetrics, intensive care and pediatric emergency wings, installing sensors to monitor stability. The evacuation, carried out on the night of 4 August 2026, led to the transfer of about sixty patients to nearby facilities in Eboli, Roccadaspide, Nocera Inferiore and Polla, while laboratory and radiology services remained operational and the 118 emergency line was rerouted.

Union groups Fisascat Cisl and Nursind have issued formal protests, demanding dialogue with the ASL and protection of the hundreds of contract workers employed by external companies, warning against unilateral decisions that could affect jobs and contracts. The ASL Salerno publicly praised the medical and support staff for their professionalism during the complex relocation, highlighting the continuity of care despite the structural emergency.
