Battle royale gaming market projected to reach $30 billion by 2035

The battle royale video game sub-genre has evolved from early Minecraft Survival Games servers into a massive global market. Valued at $11.2 billion last year, the sector is projected to reach nearly $30 billion by 2035.

While the genre's roots can be traced to Hunger Games-inspired Minecraft servers launched in 2012, the modern format was significantly shaped by developer Brendan Greene. His work on a DayZ mod, inspired by the film Battle Royale, eventually led to the development of PlayerUnknown's Battle Royale.

Despite the immense financial potential, the market is highly competitive. Major industry players, including Amazon Games and Halo Studios, have struggled to establish successful entries in the crowded landscape of live-service battle royale titles.
