Bau Truc Cham Pottery Festival opens in Khanh Hoa

The first Bau Truc Cham Pottery Festival officially opened on the evening of October 10 in Ninh Phuoc commune, Khanh Hoa province. Held during the Katê festival period, the event aims to honor the traditional pottery art of the Cham people and promote local cultural products, including My Nghiep brocade weaving and OCOP products.

Bau Truc pottery is distinguished by its entirely manual production method, which uses no potter's wheels or molds. Instead, artisans—traditionally Cham women—shape the clay using only their hands, water, and fire. This craft was inscribed on the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding in 2022.

The festival provides a space for visitors to observe artisans at work and participate in hands-on experiences. Local officials emphasized that preservation involves ensuring the heritage remains active and integrated into modern life rather than remaining static in the past.
