Bauchi Police arrest two for allegedly assaulting officers
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two men, identified as Friday and Yunana Ali, for allegedly assaulting police officers and obstructing them from performing their duties. The incident occurred on October 3, 2026, along Yelwa Road in the Bauchi metropolis during a routine enforcement operation known as ‘Operation Velvet’.
According to police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib, officers from the ‘E’ Division Patrol Team intercepted the suspects and requested their vehicle documents. The suspects allegedly refused to comply and became hostile, physically assaulting the patrol team and tearing the uniform of an Inspector of Police.
Commissioner of Police CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu condemned the incident, describing it as an affront to constituted authority and an attempt to undermine law enforcement. The suspects face potential charges including criminal conspiracy, assault, malicious damage, and obstruction of public officers. An investigation is currently underway at the ‘E’ Division.
