Bauchi radiology centre commissioned as part of Nigeria's healthcare expansion
The Nigerian Federal Government has commissioned a new radiology diagnostic centre at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi. The facility is part of a broader national initiative to modernize tertiary healthcare delivery.
Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, stated that the Bauchi centre is one of 10 world-class radiology diagnostic facilities completed across Nigeria under the Medical and Diagnostic Infrastructure Programme. This programme was executed in partnership with the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA). Pate described the initiative as the largest expansion of health infrastructure and equipment in the country’s history.
In addition to the 10 diagnostic centres, the government has completed three cancer centres and is preparing to establish six multispecialty hospitals across the six geopolitical zones. These investments aim to improve access to modern diagnostic services, strengthen medical training, and support research. Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed noted that the new facility will help address local infrastructure gaps and reduce the need for patients to travel outside the state for specialized services.
