Bauchi State 2027 Gubernatorial Race Escalates with APC Candidate Dispute
Five candidates are contesting the 2027 Bauchi State governorship election: Dr. Yakubu Adamu (Allied Peoples Movement), Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, SAN (All Progressives Congress), Ibrahim Mohammed Kashim (Nigerian Democratic Congress), Senator Halliru Dauda Jika (African Democratic Congress), and Senator Shehu Buba Umar (People’s Redemption Party). The race features former governor Abubakar, a former finance commissioner, a former state secretary, and two former senators.
A controversy has emerged within the APC as supporters of Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Maitama Tuggar reject the reported emergence of former Governor Abubakar as the party’s candidate. The Tuggar Foundation alleges that no primary was held, labeling the declaration unconstitutional and urging the party to conduct an independent opinion poll. The group endorses Tuggar, a Katagum native, arguing that his candidacy would restore internal party balance and improve the APC’s chances in the 2027 election.
