Bauchi State Governor establishes Mining Institute in Alkaleri

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has signed into law a bill to establish the Mining Institute of Alkaleri, Bauchi State (MIABAS). The institution is designed to strengthen mining education, provide technical training in geology and mineral processing, and address challenges related to illegal mining.

To facilitate an immediate start, the governor approved the conversion of the Kaura Mineral Processing and Buying Centre in Gwaram village into the institute’s temporary site. The mineral buying centre will be relocated to the Toro Local Government Area.

The initiative aims to develop local expertise, create employment opportunities, and increase local participation in the solid minerals value chain to drive sustainable economic growth within the state.
