Bauchi State Governor orders acceleration of ACReSAL flood control projects

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has directed contractors to accelerate the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) flood and erosion-control project. The 15.2-kilometre corridor project is currently only 7.2 per cent complete, despite the state government having released 40 per cent of the contract sum. The Governor ordered the deployment of additional manpower and equipment to ensure the timely completion of the feeder channels designed to protect vulnerable communities from flooding.

During an inspection of ACReSAL interventions, Governor Mohammed also commissioned the Soil, Water, and Plant Science Laboratory at the State College of Agriculture. He noted that approximately 80 per cent of Bauchi's population relies on agriculture for their livelihoods. The new laboratory, supported by the World Bank, is intended to restore agricultural productivity and provide advanced soil testing that will also benefit the construction and real estate sectors. The Governor emphasized that infrastructure development in the state will now be guided by scientific testing to ensure structural integrity.
