Bauchi State health stakeholders target tetanus and malnutrition

Health stakeholders in Bauchi State are intensifying efforts to combat maternal and neonatal tetanus through increased public awareness, immunization, and community participation. During a recent media engagement, officials from the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Board emphasized the need for journalists and religious leaders to help disseminate credible health information to families and women of reproductive age.

Key prevention measures identified include immunization, hygienic childbirth practices, and proper umbilical-cord care. The initiative targets several local government areas, including Ningi, Kirfi, Itas-Gadau, Shira, Giade, Darazo, and Tafawa Balewa.

In a separate but related development regarding regional health, a partnership between the Bauchi State government, UNICEF, and the United States government has reportedly helped lift 40,000 children aged six to 23 months out of malnutrition. The program provided lipid-based nutrient supplements and trained over 6,000 parents on nutrition and good health practices. The intervention also strengthened the capacity of frontline healthcare workers and local nutrition committees.
