Bauchi State political landscape shifts ahead of 2027 elections
Political activity in Bauchi State is intensifying as discussions regarding the 2027 governorship election gain momentum. A central theme in the current discourse is the necessity of administrative continuity to protect ongoing public investments in infrastructure, healthcare, and education. Supporters of Governor Bala Mohammed argue that a successor must be capable of completing and expanding existing capital expenditure projects to prevent the waste of taxpayer funds often seen during political transitions.
In recent bye-elections held in the Shira and Zaki Local Government Areas, the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured one of the two contested seats. In the Disina constituency, the APC won with 5,846 votes against the APM’s 5,225. However, in the Sakwa constituency, the APM secured 8,515 votes, defeating the APC’s 3,771. The results have prompted calls within the APC for improved internal coordination, reconciliation, and strategic planning to address internal divisions and strengthen the party's performance in future elections.
