Allied Peoples Movement sweeps Bauchi local government elections

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) achieved a decisive victory in the Bauchi State local government elections, winning all 20 chairmanship seats. The party also secured 319 of the 323 contested councillorship positions.

Jummai Abubakar, Chairperson of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC), announced the results following the completion of voting, counting, and verification. The remaining four councillorship seats were distributed among the Social Democratic Party, National Rescue Movement, Zenith Labour Party, and Young Progressives Party.

Notable winners include Umar Mohammed in Bauchi LGA, Bappah Aliyu in Alkaleri, and Abubakar Ibrahim Dembo in Toro. The election results were announced amid a boycott by opposition parties, who had alleged the process was designed to favor the APM. However, Governor Bala Mohammed described the exercise as peaceful and maintained its legitimacy.
