Bauhaus to exit Norway and close all warehouses

The building materials retailer Bauhaus is exiting the Norwegian market, closing all its warehouses in the country. The decision follows significant financial losses totaling 870 million Swedish kronor since the company opened its first Norwegian location in 2007. The closure affects approximately 300 employees.

Kenneth Litland, CEO of Bauhaus Sweden and Norway, stated that an extensive evaluation showed the Norwegian operations did not achieve the profitability and stability required for long-term sustainability. Market director Johan Saxne noted that the company failed to expand its number of warehouses according to its original plan.

In contrast, the company’s Swedish operations remain stable. Bauhaus operates 24 warehouses in Sweden with approximately 2,500 employees. While the Swedish division reported operating losses in recent years, revenue increased by 2.7 percent in 2024. Management indicated there is no current risk to the Swedish stores, citing improved sales and completed long-term investments.
