Bavaria announces statewide police checks on vehicle lighting

Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann has announced a statewide police campaign to inspect vehicle lighting as the autumn season begins. The initiative aims to increase road safety and driver visibility during the darker months.

Data from the final quarter of 2025 indicates a high risk during the dark season, specifically between 5:00–7:00 and 17:00–21:00. During these periods, Bavaria recorded 24,493 accidents, resulting in 3,637 injuries and 35 deaths.

To assist motorists, the annual light test organized by the Deutsche Verkehrswacht and the Zentralverband des Deutschen Kraftfahrzeuggewerbes will resume on October 1. Participating master automotive workshops may provide immediate, free repairs for minor lighting issues.
