Bavaria expands all-day childcare with 461 million euro fund

Bavaria is expanding its all-day educational and childcare services for primary school students. Starting with the 2026/2027 school year, a legal entitlement to all-day care will be phased in, beginning with first-grade students and expanding through 2029.

To support this initiative, the state has allocated 461 million euros through a state funding program. Bavarian Family Minister Ulrike Scharf stated that the expansion aims to improve the compatibility of family, career, and caregiving while securing the state's economic future. Currently, more than half of primary school children in Bavaria participate in afternoon programs such as after-school care or midday supervision.
