Central Europe weather shifts as cold front brings rain and snow
A significant weather shift is impacting Central Europe, characterized by a cold front and low-pressure systems bringing rain, wind, and snow to several regions.
In Germany, a transition from mild autumn conditions to unsettled weather is underway. The German Weather Service (DWD) reports widespread rain across Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, and Berlin/Brandenburg. In the Alps and the Bavarian Forest, the snow line is dropping significantly, with up to 20 centimeters of new snow expected in mountainous areas. High winds are also forecast, with storm gusts reaching up to 90 km/h in exposed locations like the Alps and the Black Forest.
In Austria, Geosphere Austria warns of a weather reversal as a cold front and an Italian low-pressure system approach. This is expected to bring heavy rain and potentially lower the snow line to between 1,000 and 1,500 meters in the mountains. Regions such as East Tyrol and Upper Carinthia are particularly at risk for heavy precipitation and possible thunderstorms.
