Bavaria faces criticism over lack of PFAS contamination plan
The SPD and Green parties in the Bavarian Landtag have accused the state government of failing to provide a coherent strategy for managing environmental contamination caused by per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS), often referred to as ‘forever chemicals.’
Opposition members are calling for a binding state-wide plan that includes clear regulatory rules, financial assistance for affected municipalities, and established protocols for soil remediation and waste disposal. SPD spokesperson Anna Rasehorn emphasized that municipalities should not be left to manage these growing and costly environmental issues alone.
Furthermore, the Green Party has criticized the government for a lack of data, noting that the state currently lacks information regarding the specific use of PFAS-containing pesticides in Bavarian agriculture and the total costs associated with legacy contamination.
